Amritsar Rural Police have made a shocking revelation while solving the case of a missing NRI. Police investigations transformed the case from a kidnapping inquiry into a murder investigation. A premeditated conspiracy to usurp property has emerged as the motive behind the murder of Australian citizen Sunil Sharma. Police have arrested four accused individuals in the case, while two others remain at large. Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal stated in a press conference that on May 23, 2026, Gaurav Kandhari, a resident of Fatehgarh Churian, reported the disappearance of his friend Sunil Sharma at the Kamboh Police Station. Sunil Sharma, an Australian citizen, had come to Punjab to oversee the renovation and sale of his house in Amritsar. Following the loss of contact, the police registered a missing person report and initiated an investigation.
Based on technical evidence, CCTV footage, toll plaza records, and human intelligence gathered during the investigation, the police discovered that Sunil Sharma’s own brother, Satish Sharma (alias Sunny), had conspired with certain property dealers to usurp his property. According to the police, the accused first had a forged Power of Attorney prepared and subsequently transferred the title deeds of both of Sunil Sharma’s houses to their own names. The SSP stated that on May 22, the property dealers summoned Sunil Sharma to Amritsar under the pretext of selling the house. As per the plan, sleeping pills were mixed into his food. Later, when he lost consciousness, his brother Satish Sharma arrived at the scene with his son, Sunish Sharma, and killed him by striking him on the head with a baseball bat. According to the police, Satish Sharma’s wife, Anushka Sharma, also arrived at the scene after the murder. The accused wrapped the body in a mattress, placed it in Sunil Sharma’s car, and later dumped it into the river near Harike Headworks. To destroy evidence, Sunil Sharma’s car was parked at the parking lot of Sri Darbar Sahib. The police have arrested Satish Sharma, his wife Anushka Sharma, his son Sunish Sharma, and Lachhman Singh (alias Bal) in connection with this case. Meanwhile, Manjinder Singh and Jazbir Singh (alias Baba) have been named as accused, and a search for them is underway. SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal stated that upon identifying the accused, police teams reached Harike Pattan and conducted a search in the presence of a magistrate; however, the body of the deceased has not yet been recovered due to the strong water current. He added that the police search operation is continuing and further significant revelations are likely to emerge during the investigation.
