As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Punjab, the police in the Verka police station area of Amritsar have initiated an investigation after taking cognizance of a video that went viral on social media. Providing details, Verka Station House Officer (SHO) Sumanpreet Kaur stated that three youths are visible in the viral video. Locals allege that these individuals may be involved in the supply of narcotics. However, no official complaint regarding this matter had been lodged at the Verka police station prior to this.
SHO Sumanpreet Kaur said that a serious investigation was launched as soon as the matter came to the police’s attention. Strict action in accordance with the law will be taken against the individuals involved based on the facts that emerge during the investigation. She appealed to the public to immediately share any information regarding drug trafficking or narcotics with the police so that society can be freed from this menace.
She further stated that since January 1, 2026, the Verka police have registered 24 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 42 accused persons. During this period, the police have recovered 2 kg 710 grams of heroin, 80 intoxicating pills, and ₹16,100 in drug money.
