The youth of Punjab are mired in the quagmire of drug abuse, and reports of deaths caused by drugs surface frequently. Raising concerns about this, Congress MLA from Phagwara, Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, took to Twitter. He stated that NCRB data and deaths due to overdoses in Jalandhar have once again exposed the grim reality of the drug crisis in Punjab.
He wrote that behind every death caused by a drug overdose lies a shattered family, grieving parents, and unfulfilled dreams. No mother should have to bury her child, and no family should have to witness a loved one fall victim to this deadly menace.
Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal remarked that the Punjab government’s claims of eradicating the drug problem are proving hollow as young lives continue to be lost. While the government appears focused on advertisements and grand promises, the youth of Punjab are paying the price. He asserted that people need accountability, concrete action, and results—not speeches. Punjab is asking: how many more lives will be lost before responsibility is fixed?
