The Punjab government has extended the stipulated timeframe for routine transfers and postings of government officials and employees. According to orders issued by the Department of Personnel, routine transfers and postings across all state departments, boards, and corporations can now be carried out until June 30, 2026.
A communication issued by the ‘Personnel Policy-2’ branch of the Department of Personnel has informed all Heads of Departments, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), as well as Chairpersons and Managing Directors of various boards and corporations regarding this matter. Previously, the window for routine transfers and postings was set from April 15, 2026, to June 14, 2026. This period has now been extended by 16 days, making June 30, 2026, the final date. The orders clarify that a complete ban on routine transfers and postings will come into effect after June 30, 2026. Thereafter, any transfer or posting of an official or employee may only be executed in accordance with the provisions of the transfer policy issued by the Department of Personnel on April 23, 2018.
The Department of Personnel has directed all government departments, boards, and corporations to ensure that any pending proposals regarding the transfer of officials or employees are finalized within the stipulated timeframe. This government decision provides an opportunity to conclude long-pending transfer cases across various departments. The department has also clarified that these orders have been issued with the approval of the competent authority and will come into force across the state with immediate effect.
