Journalists from Chandigarh visit historical sites; experience Odisha’s rich art and cultural heritage

Date:

An inter-state media delegation, organized by PIB Chandigarh with the aim of fostering national integration and inter-state journalistic dialogue, visited key historical and cultural sites in Odisha on Monday.

Journalists from Chandigarh, along with counterparts from Kerala, Rajasthan, and Punjab, toured the Konark Sun Temple, the Jagannath Temple in Puri, and the Raghurajpur Heritage Village.

The journalists learned about the architecture and conservation efforts of the world-famous 13th-century Konark Sun Temple. Subsequently, in Puri, they gained insights into the religious traditions and cultural heritage of the Jagannath Temple, as well as the development works undertaken to enhance facilities for devotees.

At Raghurajpur, artists gave live demonstrations of Pattachitra, palm-leaf painting, and wood carving. The journalists also gathered information regarding the livelihoods of rural artisans, GI tagging, and their integration into digital markets. Earlier, on Tuesday, the delegation visited NALCO to learn about the company’s operations, industrial activities, and contribution to development. The journalists from Chandigarh remarked that such tours help in understanding the true picture of culture, industry, and development across different regions of the country, thereby facilitating better reporting at the national level.
