A tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning on the Kotkapura Bypass in Moga, Punjab. A couple, riding a motorcycle, was traveling from their village—Chand Nawan—to Moga for some work when they encountered a pothole on the road. The obstacle caused the motorcycle to lose its balance, throwing both the woman and their infant child to the ground. They were rushed in critical condition to the Civil Hospital in Moga with the help of a private vehicle; upon arrival, the child was declared dead, while the woman was referred to another facility for further treatment.
Providing details regarding the incident, Lakhbir Singh, a resident of village Chand Nawan, stated that he was traveling to Moga with his wife, Jyoti, and their children for a specific errand. As they approached Vishwakarma Chowk, they encountered a sewer manhole cover on the road that was not properly aligned with the road surface. This caused him to lose control of the motorcycle; the bike jolted violently, throwing his wife, Jyoti, and their 6-month-old son, Manveer Singh, onto the road, where they sustained severe injuries.
With the assistance of bystanders, the wife and child were transported to the Civil Hospital in Moga for medical attention. There, the staff on duty declared the child dead and referred the woman for further treatment; the matter has since been reported to the police.
