Under a special drive launched in Barnala district against criminal elements and illegal weaponry, the Mahal Kalan police station has achieved a major breakthrough. While on patrol, the police arrested two youths and recovered a country-made .315 bore pistol (*desi katta*) and a live cartridge from their possession.
Providing details regarding the case, ASI Balkaur Singh stated that a special operation against anti-social elements is currently underway under the directives of Barnala SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam and the supervision of Mahal Kalan DSP Satwinder Singh Virk. As part of this operation, a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Kulwinder Singh Dhaliwal was patrolling the Anaj Mandi area of Mahal Kalan when two individuals were spotted moving around under suspicious circumstances.
When the police team stopped them to conduct an interrogation and a search, both individuals attempted to flee. Displaying alertness and promptness, the police personnel immediately apprehended both of them. During the subsequent search, a country-made .315 bore pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from their possession. The arrested accused have been identified as Hardeep Singh alias Nikku and Kuldeep Singh alias Bobby, both residents of Mahal Kalan. The police have registered a case against both accused individuals under the Arms Act.
ASI Balkaur Singh further added that the police have obtained the remand of both accused individuals and are currently subjecting them to intensive interrogation. During the investigation, efforts are being made to ascertain the source from which the recovered weapon was procured and whether it was intended to be used in any other criminal activity. Police officials have clarified that such operations will continue consistently in the future to maintain law and order within the district and to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons.
