The Punjab government took a significant step today aimed at encouraging rural youth towards sports and fitness. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated 500 rural gyms established across the state. This state-level event was launched from Chand Baja village in Faridkot district, where a special ceremony was organized.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Special Chief Secretary (Sports and Youth Services) Sarvjit Singh were also present on the occasion. A large number of villagers, youths, and sportspersons attended the event and welcomed the government’s initiative. The government states that the objective of these rural gyms is to steer youth away from drug abuse and inspire them to focus on sports and health. These gyms are equipped with modern fitness equipment, enabling rural youth to access facilities comparable to those in cities right within their own villages. This will not only improve physical fitness but also provide an opportunity for sporting talent to flourish.
Punjab Government Committed to Youth Welfare
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the state government is continuously working to advance the youth in the fields of employment, education, and sports. He emphasized that strengthening the sports culture in rural areas is a priority for the government, enabling Punjab’s youth to make their mark at national and international levels. Interaction with People via ‘Lok Milni’
Following the event, the Chief Minister is also scheduled to interact with villagers in Chand Baja as part of a ‘Lok Milni’ (public interaction) program. During this session, he will listen to the people’s grievances and gather feedback regarding development works. The administration had made extensive arrangements for the event. Praising the initiative, villagers remarked that it would provide a positive direction for the youth and strengthen the sports environment in the villages.
