Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that whatever he is today is because of his mother. He said- Father had refused to educate further. But, mother gave money for college admission from her savings. If this had not happened at that time, I would also have been doing farming.
He was addressing a Mahila Samman ceremony in Delhi. Let us tell you that Khattar contested the assembly elections for the first time in 2014. When the BJP formed a full majority government in Haryana, he was made the Chief Minister. He remained the Chief Minister for 4 and a half years in the second term as well. After this, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Karnal in 2024 and was made a cabinet minister in the central government.
1. There is a woman behind every successful man
Union Minister Manohar Lal said- There is a saying, behind every successful person there is a woman. That woman can be a wife, sister, mother or even grandmother. I mentioned this topic because I was born in a village.
Like children in villages, they study and do farming in a very simple way. I did many types of work in my life. If I have reached this position today, and if I can give credit to anyone, then I can give it to my mother.
2. Father refused to teach me, asked me to do farming
This incident is from the year 1970. Then I passed 10th. Father refused to educate me further. Father said that I do farming. I (Manohar Lal) am the eldest among my siblings. Father said that I need a son to help in the farming work. You do this. Help me in the farming work.
No one in the family was educated. At that time, 55 years ago, studying 10th was considered a big thing. I insisted that I want to study further. Father clearly refused. I became sad.
3. I was crying, mother handed me 300 rupees
Father had gone out. Sadness fills the heart. It hurts. I started crying. Mother asked me, son, why are you crying? I said that I want to study. Father refused. Mother asked, if you want to take admission, how much money will it cost for the first time?
I said that I don’t know much about college, but it will definitely cost 200-300 rupees. My mother and grandmother used to save some money. Mother went inside and brought 300 rupees and handed it to me. I took that money and went to get admission.
4. Father scolded me, agreed to study to save 300 rupees from getting wasted
I got admission. I went to college to study. When I came back in the evening, father scolded me. He asked why did I take admission? I said that I have taken admission now. Father asked how much money did it cost? I said 300 rupees. Father asked from where did you get it? I said I took it from my mother.
He also scolded my mother. I told him that if I don’t go to college now, 300 rupees will be wasted. 300 rupees were spent, father agreed to save them. He said okay, study, I will also keep giving in future.
He had said about his wife – will have to wait for the next birth
On August 5, 2024, during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’. Jaya objected to this. Earlier on July 29, Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh had addressed her by the same name. Even then Jaya had expressed displeasure.
After some noise, the Chairman narrated an anecdote and told Jaya that she could ask her question to Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Jaya stood up and pointing towards Khattar said – put his wife’s name in front of his name.
When Khattar stood up to answer, he said sarcastically – I will have to wait for the next birth for this work. It is not possible before that. The entire house echoed with laughter at this. Jaya Bachchan was also seen laughing.
BJP got majority in the 2014 Haryana assembly elections. Names of stalwarts like Ram Bilas Sharma, Anil Vij, Captain Abhimanyu, Om Prakash Dhankhar were in the race for the CM post, but the leader who became MLA for the first time, who had sworn to topple Bansi Lal’s government 15 years ago, won the race, name- Manohar Lal Khattar
