Powercom launched a campaign to prevent power theft and misuse, in which 1,280 connections were inspected across all five divisions of the Jalandhar Circle. 23 cases of power theft were detected, and a fine of ₹4.81 lakh was imposed. Under the direction of North Zone Chief Engineer Desraj Bangar and Deputy Chief Gulshan Chutani, executives from all five divisions deployed teams for the inspection. Under the supervision of Executive Engineer Jaspal Singh Pal of the Model Town Division, 328 connections were inspected. Six cases of direct power theft were detected, resulting in fines of ₹2.77 lakh, and a total of ₹2.80 lakh were imposed for eight cases.
Meanwhile, Phagwara Division inspected 239 connections, East 295, West 221, and Cantt 197. A total of 8 cases of electricity theft were detected on this occasion, while 15 cases were detected for misuse of electricity and commercial use of domestic power. The cases have been referred to the Entry Theft Police Station. Officials stated that under this initiative, they are cracking down on power thieves and preventing misuse. They added that the Punjab government has provided 300 units of free electricity for domestic use only. Commercial use of this electricity is prohibited. Officials stated that no consumer may use their domestic electricity in a shop. Consumers who own a shop adjacent to their home will be required to install a separate commercial connection for their shop. They stated that special checking will continue through the formation of various teams in this regard. If such cases are detected, strict action will be taken, including imposing fines.
