The controversy that began in Jalandhar, Punjab, over the slogans “I Love Mohammed” and “Jai Shri Ram” is now escalating. During a protest by Hindu organizations at a BMC intersection, BJP leader Sheetal Angural called Muslim leader Ayub Khan a “fake man,” making serious allegations against him. Sometimes he pretends to be Ayub Khan, sometimes Ayub Duggal. Sheetal added that Ayub Khan changes his name and is trying to disrupt the city’s atmosphere by raising the issue of Bangladeshis. A war of words erupted between the two leaders. Sheetal said, “If Ayub Khan doesn’t surrender, the police will pick him up from his home. He said that Ayub Khan is a YouTuber who wants to make himself a hero and is using abusive language against several leaders, including the Prime Minister.”
In response to this statement, Ayub Khan stated that he was born in Jalandhar, not Bangladesh. He accused the BJP leader of being a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and now joining the BJP. He also released photos of Sheetal embracing and celebrating Eid with the Muslim community. Ayub said, “I will send evidence against him to the central government.” Responding to Sheetal, Ayub said, “The leader making these comments wants to let you know that this same leader once ate chicken and prayed with him. He has all the photos and videos. During the recent Eid, you were asking for sweet rice.” Ayub Khan, a resident of the Basti area, is currently associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. He previously served as the state in-charge of the BJP’s Muslim wing. This controversy is heating up on social and political platforms. He is the husband of an AAP councilor from the Basti area.
Religious and political differences have flared up in Jalandhar many times before. This time, the altercation began after chants of “I love Mohammad” and “Jai Shri Ram” were raised, which could escalate communal tensions in the city. The local administration and police are monitoring the situation and trying to maintain peace.
