Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, along with Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, launched the ‘The English Edge – Learn Smart, Speak Sharp’ program. Under this program, students in government schools will be equipped with world-class English communication skills. He informed that currently, this prestigious program has been launched to educate 3 lakh students from classes 9 to 12 in 500 government schools across Punjab. It aims to equip them with the skills to speak, read, and think confidently in English, thereby enhancing their employability and global reach. Calling it a milestone in the ‘Punjab Education Revolution’, he said that this program combines digital reading in school with speaking practice at home.
Guided reading, pronunciation aids, and daily 10-minute practice sessions will help improve students’ English comprehension and fluency, enabling them to excel in the language. This program integrates classroom teaching with digital technology to make English learning more enjoyable, balanced, and practical. This initiative is being implemented by the Punjab School Education Department in collaboration with English Helper, a global EdTech organization that has worked in several Indian states to improve English proficiency and confidence. He said that English language proficiency helps in unlocking global opportunities.
To prepare students for success in today’s rapidly changing world, we are launching ‘The English Edge’ program to bridge the language gap and make them globally competent. He said that students in Punjab are full of talent and potential. This program complements ongoing reforms such as the Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum, Drug De-addiction Curriculum, and Business Blasters program and is designed to make Punjab’s classrooms centers of creativity, communication, and critical thinking. He said that this flagship program will enable every child to speak English confidently. This program is not just about language skills, but also about opening new avenues for the future of Punjab.
