Another major development has emerged regarding former Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar. A new case has been registered against him. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against him for acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. This action was taken on Wednesday based on a complaint filed by CBI Inspector Sonal Mishra.
According to reports, Harcharan Singh Bhullar was arrested approximately two weeks ago in a bribery case and is currently in judicial custody at Burail Jail in Chandigarh. His next court hearing is scheduled for October 31.
What is the Case?
The complaint alleges that Bhullar, in collusion with unknown individuals, acquired assets through illegal means, far exceeding his declared income. During the investigation, he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for these assets. According to sources, between August 1 and October 17, 2025, Bhullar significantly increased his wealth through illicit means. His total declared income in the 2024-25 financial year’s income tax return was Rs 45,95,990, while his actual annual income after tax deductions was approximately Rs 32 lakh. However, the value of the assets found during the search was many times higher. The CBI is now investigating Bhullar’s movable and immovable properties, bank accounts, and potential benami transactions. According to the agency, other individuals connected to this case may also be questioned in the coming days.
What was recovered?
The CBI searched Harcharan Singh Bhullar’s house in Sector 40-B, Chandigarh, on October 16 and 17.
Cash: Rs 7,36,90,000 (of which Rs 7,36,50,000 was seized).
Jewelry and other valuables: Gold and silver jewelry worth Rs 2.32 crore and 26 expensive branded watches were found in the bedroom. Property Documents: Documents for approximately 150 acres of land in Mohali, Hoshiarpur, and Ludhiana have been recovered, including two houses in Chandigarh (Sector 40-B and Sector 39). These properties are registered in the names of Bhullar, his wife Tejinder Kaur Bhullar, son Gurpratap Singh Bhullar, daughter Tejkiran Kaur Bhullar, and others.
Vehicles and Bank Balances: The family was also found to possess five expensive vehicles, including a Mercedes, Audi, Innova, and Fortuner. Additionally, five bank accounts and two fixed deposits in the names of Bhullar and his family members were discovered.
