A major development has emerged concerning Punjab University. The central government has made significant changes to the administrative structure of Punjab University. The 59-year-old Senate and Syndicate have been dissolved with immediate effect. An official notification in this regard has been issued by the central government.
The university will now be governed by a “Board of Governors” headed by the Vice-Chancellor. This board will include representatives from the central government, the UGC (University Grants Commission), and the Chandigarh administration. Following the central government’s orders, there will be no more Senate elections at the university, and graduate voters will have no representation. Previously, the 91-member Senate and the 15-member Syndicate determined the university’s policies and budget, but now all these powers will be transferred to the newly constituted Board of Governors.
