The Jalandhar Dairy Association has increased the price of desi ghee by ₹20 per kilogram. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the association’s president, Jagdev Lal Sharma. Members at the meeting stated that due to the recent floods, many cattle had died in rural areas, resulting in a decrease in milk supply. Considering this, the association has increased the price of desi ghee from ₹580 per kilogram to ₹600 per kilogram.
They further explained that milk plants are already selling desi ghee at a higher price than dairies. The association prepares its own desi ghee, ensuring there is no adulteration. They suggested that the government should exempt dairies from property tax. Currently, municipal corporation inspectors arbitrarily decide the property tax rates. Dairies in cities have to pay all kinds of taxes, while no taxes are levied on dairies in rural areas.
The association has always been committed to continuing its campaign against adulteration. They urged that any instances of adulteration should be immediately reported to the association’s office bearers. They also mentioned that the association discussed several other pressing issues.
