A child, who had gone with his mother to offer prayers at a Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) being held in connection with Guru Parv in Gobindsar Colony, Shimlapuri, under the jurisdiction of Daba police station, was seriously injured when he was hit by a bullet fired from a gun. He has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred late Sunday evening when a large number of people from the area had gathered to offer prayers at the Nagar Kirtan in Gobindsar Colony. Among them was Parth (10), a third-grade student whose father had already passed away, who had come with his mother, Gurpreet Kaur, to offer prayers. During this time, a man from the area suddenly started firing shots from a 12-bore gun he was holding, causing panic among the people.
One of the bullets fired by the accused struck Parth in the leg, and he fell to the ground. The sudden incident caused chaos, and the accused took advantage of the situation and fled the scene. People immediately rushed the seriously injured Parth to a nearby private hospital for treatment and informed the police about the incident.
Station House Officer Kulwant Kaur of Daba police station, who arrived at the scene, stated that the accused who fired the shots during the Nagar Kirtan has been identified as Sukhpal Singh Gabaria, son of Darshan Singh, a resident of Shimlapuri. The police have registered a case against the accused and have launched a search for him, and he will be arrested soon. The police are also investigating whether the accused had a license for the weapon. Meanwhile, the devotees who had come to offer prayers at the Nagar Kirtan, angered by the incident, have demanded strict action against the accused from the police administration. They said that those who spoil the atmosphere by firing shots at a religious ceremony should not be spared at any cost.
