Police have arrested Gaurav alias Tony, a mathematics and science teacher, from Ajmer for allegedly sheltering the accused, Kushal, Karan, and Gagan, who looted 850 grams of gold jewelry and Rs 2.25 lakh in cash from Vijay Jewelers in Bhargav Camp. According to the police, Gaurav alias Tony, a resident of Hathi Bata in Ajmer, and the robbers Kushal alias Rinku, Gagan Paswan, and Karan alias Bachcha, all residents of Bhargav Camp, were produced in court and remanded to four days of police custody.
Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that after the robbery at Vijay Jewelers, teams from the CIA staff, Bhargav Camp police station, Special Cell, and Crime Branch were continuously working to apprehend the accused. CIA staff in-charge Surinder Kumar Kamboj, after investigating through human intelligence and technical means, discovered that the three accused were staying in the Hathi Bata area of Ajmer Sharif, Rajasthan, using public transport. On Sunday morning, CIA staff in-charge Surinder Kumar Kamboj and his team left for Ajmer Sharif. The CIA staff also examined several CCTV footages in Ajmer Sharif, after which the location of the accused was traced.
The CIA staff raided the house of a young man named Gagan in the Hathi Bata area and arrested Karan alias Bachcha son of Baldev Singh, Kushal alias Rinku son of Ram Lal, and Gagan son of Diwakar, all residents of Bhargav Camp. It is reported that the accused were planning to leave the location on Sunday, but the CIA staff raided the place in time and arrested them all.
CP Dhanpreet Kaur stated that a case of attempted murder is registered against Karan at Basti Bawa Khel police station. Five cases of drug offenses and assault are registered against Kushal alias Tunda in different police stations. A criminal case has also been registered against Gagan alias Bhaiya. The SP said that the weapon used in the crime is yet to be recovered from the accused, but it will be recovered soon. However, the police have not confirmed the recovery of the looted gold.
It may be recalled that on Thursday morning at 10 am, three masked robbers entered Vijay Jewellers shop in the Bhargav Camp area and looted gold and cash at gunpoint. As soon as the CCTV footage of the robbery went viral, Kushal Tunda, who lives behind the police station, was identified. After this, Gagan alias Bhaiya and another robber named Kush were also identified by the local people.
The Bhargav Camp police registered a case and took Gagan’s two sisters and Kushal’s wife into custody. The investigation revealed that all three accused were hiding in Ajmer Sharif, after which the CIA staff raided the place and arrested the robbers on Sunday.
The police also arrested Gagan, son of Kamal Singh, a resident of Hathi Bata, Ajmer Sharif, who had given shelter to the three robbers. During questioning, the accused confessed that they had looted 200 grams of gold and Rs 23,000 cash from Vijay Jewellers. However, the owner of Vijay Jewellers had alleged that the robbers had looted 850 grams of gold and Rs 2.25 lakh from the shop.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the police have recovered the looted gold from the Ramamandi area, while the cash has already been spent. It is being said that Kushal had procured a country-made pistol from a person named Shama. The police have now started preparations to also name Shama in the case.
How the robbers reached Ajmer
SP Dhanpreet Kaur said that after the incident, the three accused first went to Rama Mandi on foot and then by bike. From there, they went to Phagwara by bus, where they were caught on CCTV cameras. After that, they boarded a train from Ludhiana and reached Ajmer. With the help of Ajmer Superintendent of Police Vandita Rana, they were apprehended at the Narmadapuri Ashram in Pushkar. The ashram’s manager, Yogesh, told the police that the three young men were friends of his brother, Tony. Interrogation revealed that Kushal had connections with a youth leader of the ruling party. Gaurav also admitted that he had stayed at the Bhargav camp for about two years and that he had become friends with the other three during that time.
