Energy Minister Anil Vij has directed officials of the Haryana power corporations to remain fully prepared to tackle the challenges arising from the summer season and adverse weather conditions. As is the practice every year, Minister Vij has issued orders to ensure readiness starting now, in order to effectively handle the demands of the summer months as well as challenging weather events such as heavy rains and storms.
On Wednesday, the Energy Minister held a detailed discussion at his ministry office with the Chairperson of the power corporations—senior IAS officer Smt. Ashima Brar—and other officials. Vij reviewed the preparations in place to maintain a regular power supply even during days of extreme heat, emphasizing that even more extensive preparations are required to meet this objective.
The Minister held detailed discussions regarding both corporations—South and North Haryana—and drew attention to the measures implemented in previous years. He indicated that he would soon convene another meeting specifically with officials from the North and South Haryana Power Distribution Corporations. The Energy Minister made it clear that officials must arrive at the meeting fully prepared regarding the strategy for ensuring an adequate power supply during the summer months, and that their agenda should be clearly defined. In response, Chairperson Smt. Ashima Brar gave assurances that such directives had already been issued. She stated that all officials have been instructed to remain on high alert and to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
**Emphasis on Learning from Past Experiences and Establishing Control Rooms**
The Minister has directed the power corporations to establish control rooms in the near future and to arrange for additional equipment and supplies to handle emergency situations. He also called for the establishment of a centralized control room at the state level, operating on a 24/7 basis, to enable real-time monitoring of the power supply. This control room will monitor supply conditions, tripping incidents, and breakdowns at the feeder level, and will also maintain a comprehensive record of outages and restoration efforts.
**Poor Performance to Be Closely Monitored**
Instructions have also been issued to identify and specifically mark those feeders that are performing poorly. Particular attention will be paid to 11 kV feeders that have reported 20 or more breakdowns within a single month. A special review will be conducted for 33 kV feeders experiencing five or more breakdowns. Dynamic load management will be implemented during periods of peak demand, and load shedding will be carried out as necessary. Directives have been issued to maintain adequate stock of materials and to keep Quick Response Teams on standby to handle emergency situations. Instructions have also been given to disseminate information regarding power outages via SMS, WhatsApp, and social media channels.
**Marathon Meeting Soon; Detailed Review to Follow**
Haryana’s Energy Minister, Anil Vij, has made it clear that he will soon convene a crucial meeting. This meeting will involve a comprehensive, systematic review of operations; to this end, the Minister has directed officials to arrive fully prepared. Minister Vij has thus signaled his clear intent regarding this upcoming meeting.
