Amidst the ongoing campaign against drugs, a young man died of an overdose in the Gujjapir area of Jalandhar. The young man had visited the home of an acquaintance; upon needing to relieve himself, he entered the bathroom, where he proceeded to inject himself with drugs. He subsequently died due to an overdose. After a considerable amount of time had passed and the young man failed to emerge from the bathroom, the door was forced open; he was found lying face-down on the floor with an injection syringe still in his hand. The deceased has been identified as Davinder, alias Sabi—son of Yashpal—a resident of Gujjapir.
According to acquaintances, Sabi had gone to the home of a local acquaintance at 4:50 PM on Tuesday afternoon. Although he did not find the specific acquaintance he was looking for, he spoke with a woman present in the house, asked for a cup of tea, and mentioned that he would use the bathroom first. As soon as the woman went into the kitchen to prepare the tea, Sabi switched on the bathroom light, locked the door from the inside, and remained inside for a prolonged period. When the woman finished making the tea, placed it on the table, and began calling out to Sabi, she received no response from the bathroom. Neighbors were gathered to help break down the bathroom door, revealing Sabi lying face-down on the floor with an injection syringe still clutched in his hand. Sabi was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he had already passed away.
Sabi’s family members were immediately informed of the incident, and the police at Thana 8 (Police Station 8) were notified. Sabi worked in the PVC trade and had developed a drug addiction following the death of his wife. He is survived by two brothers. Regarding the matter, ASI Gurmel Singh of Thana 8 stated that Sabi had been in poor health. An injection syringe was recovered from the scene; however, the family members maintain that their son’s death was caused by a heart attack.
Nevertheless, the police assert that the injection syringe was recovered from Sabi’s pocket. ASI Gurmel Singh confirmed that the deceased’s family members declined to pursue any legal action regarding the incident; consequently, the body was handed over to them without a post-mortem examination being conducted.
