The condition of the night shelter located within the Chhoti Haibowal Dairy Complex on Hambran Road, Ludhiana, remains extremely dire. Intended to provide relief to the needy and destitute, this shelter has instead become a source of daily hardships for its residents.
Sanitation here is in a deplorable state, with heaps of filth accumulated everywhere, posing a constant health risk to those residing there. Most concerning is the fact that, despite the scorching heat, the rooms are equipped with neither fans nor air coolers, making living conditions extremely difficult for the occupants.
Conversely, the shelter’s caretaker is observed enjoying the very amenities—coolers and fans—that are denied to the residents; this exposes the hollowness of the management and clearly highlights the insensitivity of those in charge. The negligence of the Municipal Corporation is glaringly evident in this entire affair. It appears as though the administration has completely turned a blind eye to the situation. The pertinent question arises: when facilities specifically created to aid the needy become the very source of their distress, who is to be held accountable?
