Amidst the growing difficulties faced by teachers regarding census duty, a meeting held between the Joint Teachers’ Association (JTA) and the administration has brought some relief. Demonstrating seriousness, the administration has assured that concrete steps will be taken regarding the safety of female teachers and the issue of dual duties, which could provide relief to teachers in the coming days.
**Positive Decisions to be Taken on These Issues**
On Monday, a delegation from the Association met with Chandigarh DC Nishant Yadav to highlight the problems faced by teachers during census duty. Issues such as the safety of female teachers, difficulties encountered in the field, and the dual workload—balancing census work with school duties—were prominently raised during the meeting. Taking these concerns seriously, the administration issued directives for immediate action. During a meeting with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Amandeep Bhatti, the safety and working conditions of female teachers were discussed in detail. The administration gave an assurance that positive decisions regarding these issues would be taken soon.
With the safety of female teachers in mind, beat police personnel will be deployed to accompany them during field duties. Furthermore, instructions will be issued to Ward Councilors to provide a local assistant to each teacher to prevent any difficulties while working in the field. The Association also stated that combining census work with regular school duties is not a practical arrangement. In response, the DC gave an assurance that this matter would be immediately taken up with the Education Secretary and the Census Department.
