Crucial news has emerged for liquor enthusiasts. Specifically, a ‘Dry Day’ has been declared in Sri Muktsar Sahib for Tuesday. The State Election Commission is conducting elections for the Municipal Councils of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Malout, and Gidderbaha on May 26, 2026. To ensure the peaceful and successful conduct of these elections, Davi Goyal, IAS, Additional District Magistrate of Sri Muktsar Sahib, exercising special powers vested under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, has issued strict orders declaring a ‘Dry Day’ across the entire jurisdiction of the Municipal Councils of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Malout, and Gidderbaha on May 26—commencing from 8:00 AM until the voting process concludes.
According to these official orders, the sale, hoarding, and distribution of English or country liquor, spirits, alcohol, or any other intoxicating substances will be strictly prohibited on election day. Furthermore, the sale and serving of liquor have been completely banned in hotels, *dhabas*, premises, restaurants, beer bars, clubs, or any other public venues where alcohol is typically served.
The Additional District Magistrate has further clarified that various clubs, star-rated hotels, restaurants, and similar establishments—as well as hotels operated by any private or government entity—will be prohibited from serving liquor to anyone on this day, even if they possess valid licenses of various categories for the storage and supply of alcohol. These specific orders shall remain strictly in force throughout the election process on May 26, 2026, and legal action will be initiated against any violators.
