A massive fire suddenly broke out this morning at the ‘Ganpati Timber Traders’ warehouse, located near Palm Court on Ferozepur Road in the city. Due to the presence of a vast stock of dry timber and plywood inside the warehouse, the fire intensified rapidly and assumed a ferocious form within moments. The flames rose so high into the sky that a terrifying plume of black smoke could be clearly seen from a great distance. Witnessing this scene, panic spread rapidly among nearby shopkeepers, residents of the surrounding area, and passersby, following which the fire brigade was immediately alerted. Upon receiving information about the incident, teams from the Fire Department immediately swung into action. Fire Officer Rajinder stated that they had received a report from the control room this morning regarding the fire at the Ganpati Timber warehouse. Given the gravity of the situation, fire tenders were dispatched to the scene immediately, without a moment’s delay.
Currently, five fire tenders are actively engaged in the firefighting operation at the site. According to fire officials, the warehouse contained a massive stock of structural timber, plywood, veneers, and boards—materials that ignite and burn with extreme speed. Due to the presence of these highly flammable materials, the flames show no signs of subsiding, and fire personnel are facing a strenuous struggle to bring the blaze under control. On a reassuring note, there have been no reports of any loss of life or casualties resulting from this horrific fire so far. However, it is feared that goods worth lakhs of rupees stored inside the warehouse have been reduced to ashes. Teams from the administration and local police have also promptly arrived at the scene to assist in crowd control and to provide full support to the fire personnel in their relief operations. The actual cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Police officials state that the extent of the damage can be accurately assessed only after the fire has been completely brought under control, at which point other aspects—including a short circuit—will be investigated.
