A shocking incident has come to light from Nawanshahr, where a man brutally murdered his girlfriend’s daughter. Not content with just the killing, the accused stuffed the body into a suitcase and dumped it in the forest. The police have arrested the woman’s lover—who strangled the 16-year-old girl to death because she was an obstacle in their relationship, then burned her body in the forest after transporting it in a suitcase—and have recovered the motorcycle used to dispose of the body.
During a press conference, SSP Tushar Gupta revealed details of the murder, stating that on June 2, the deceased teenager’s mother had lodged a complaint alleging that on May 29, while she was away at work, an unknown person had lured her minor daughter away under the pretext of marriage. The police had registered a case against an unknown person and initiated an investigation. During the probe, the name of a suspect—Gurvinder Singh (alias Gurpreet or Goppa), son of Gurnam Singh and a resident of Jadli village (Balachaur police station area)—emerged. Upon being taken into custody and interrogated, he confessed to strangling the woman’s daughter on May 29 while she was alone in their rented home. He admitted to stuffing the body into a suitcase to dispose of it and subsequently burning it in the forests of Khuralgarh village, Garhshankar.
The SSP stated that the police have recovered the charred remains of the body, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted. Interrogation revealed that the arrested accused was in a romantic relationship with the deceased teenager’s mother and frequently visited their home—something the deceased girl disapproved of. Driven by this animosity, the accused, Goppa, murdered the girl while her mother was at work and she was alone at home. The SSP stated that the accused had accompanied the deceased’s mother to the police station to file the missing person report and had continued to make inquiries regarding the matter. He added that the arrested accused has been produced in court and remanded to police custody for four days.
