The prices of houses and shops are increasing very fast in Chandigarh. Recently, a two-kanal house in Sector 18-A of Chandigarh was sold for Rs 32 crore. At the same time, an SCO (shop cum office) on Madhya Marg of Sector 7 was sold for Rs 30 crore. These rates are only the prices recorded on paper. The real deal is 40 to 50 percent more than this.
According to the information, in 2024-25, the Chandigarh Administration earned more than Rs 270 crore from property registration. Officials say that next year this income can be more than 400 crores. Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said that the registry rates (collector rate) have been increased from April 1, 2025. Even after this, people are buying property fiercely.
Registration increasing year after year
Property registration in Chandigarh is continuously increasing. If we look at the data from 1 to 15 April for three consecutive years, the difference is clearly visible. In 2023, 285 properties were registered in this 15-day period. The next year this number increased to 341. Now in 2025, 362 properties have been registered in 15 days. This is when in 2025, work was done in government offices only for 9 days.
Why did property prices increase?
Collector rate has increased after 4 years
There is less land in the city and demand is high
Chandigarh’s location and facilities are attracting people
People are now considering property as a better option for investment
