The Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh received a bomb threat on Thursday (May 22). This threat was sent by mail at 10:30 am. Immediately after this, the court rooms were evacuated. At the same time, the lawyers also came out of the chamber. After this, teams of Chandigarh Police arrived for investigation.
The High Court premises, which was evacuated, were investigated with bombs and dog squads for about 3 and a half hours. During the investigation, an advisory was issued that if anyone sees any suspicious thing anywhere, then immediately inform about it. The court proceedings were also adjourned till 2 pm. However, no suspicious object has been found during the entire investigation. After which the main gate of the High Court was opened at 2 pm and all the lawyers were seen going inside.

Threat to blow up the High Court: The notice issued by the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) said that today the High Court has received a bomb threat. After this, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been put on high alert. Following the alert, immediate precautionary measures have been initiated to ensure the safety of all court personnel and people.
Do not touch any unclaimed object: According to HCBA Secretary Gagandeep Jammu, all members of the bar have been urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious or unclaimed object found in the court premises to the HCBA office. As a precaution, all members have been requested to vacate the court rooms immediately. Court proceedings will resume after lunch break at 2 pm today.
Awareness raised: Authorities have not disclosed the threat, but HCBA has stressed the need to raise awareness. Security measures have been increased. The court administration is working closely with local law enforcement agencies to assess the situation and ensure safety.
General Registrar issued a statement
In a statement issued by the Registrar General of the High Court, it has been said that after receiving the threatening email, Chandigarh Police and bomb disposal squads have been deployed to check the court premises and the lawyers have been asked to leave the court. The court will reopen at 2 pm.
The Registrar said – On the request of the President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, lawyers can join the proceedings through virtual means. As per the wish of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, if a lawyer is unable to appear in the court physically or virtually, then no order will be passed against him.
