Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday placed some demands before the central government. These demands were for the border areas of Punjab. He said this in the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog. This meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bhagwant Mann said that Punjab needs 50 more drone jammers along the 553 km long border with Pakistan. He said that these jammers are necessary to prevent drone attacks from across the border.
Recently tensions between India and Pakistan had increased. During that time Pakistan had attacked India’s border states with drones. However, India shot down those drones.
Grant sought for these districts
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also sought infrastructure grant from the central government for the development of six border districts like Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka and Pathankot.
What did Bhagwant Mann say on drug smuggling
Apart from this, he demanded a grant of ₹ 2,829 crore to stop drug smuggling in Punjab and increase border security. He said that so far 53,000 arrests have been made in the state and 3,579 kg of heroin has been seized.
Bhagwant Mann said that this money will be used to improve the infrastructure. Prisons will be made more secure and efforts will be made to de-addict. Drone jammer is a device that prevents drones from sending and receiving signals. This makes it difficult to control the drone and makes it easy to shoot it down.
