The intensity of the heat in Punjab and Chandigarh continues to escalate. For the first time this season, temperatures have soared to 42.9 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry today with no active alerts; however, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for April 24 and 25, warning of heatwave conditions.
**District-wise Update**
Faridkot recorded the highest temperature at 42.9 degrees Celsius, while 42.8 degrees was recorded at Bathinda Airport. In cities such as Ludhiana, Patiala, and Bathinda, temperatures have also crossed the 40-degree mark. Chandigarh recorded a temperature of 39.3 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, a weak Western Disturbance is expected to become active over the hilly regions. Weather conditions are likely to change starting April 25, potentially bringing dust storms and light rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are forecast between April 26 and 28, which may offer residents some relief from the heat. The department has advised people to avoid venturing outdoors during the afternoon hours and to stay adequately hydrated.
