Every night, thieves and robbers—clad in black and brandishing weapons—roam the vicinity of D-Block in Urban Estate Phase-2, forcing local residents to live under a constant shadow of fear. Sanjeev Dev Sharma (of Brahm Motors), a social worker and resident of Urban Estate, noted that this specific area is situated just a short distance from Police Division No. 7.
Vinod Kumar, a security guard on duty in D-Block, recounted an incident that occurred two days ago. While performing his duties, he spotted two unidentified individuals loitering in the area. He gave chase in an attempt to apprehend them, managing to catch one of the suspects while the other successfully fled. The individual he had captured was found to be carrying a sharp-edged weapon. Brandishing the weapon and using intimidation tactics, the suspect took advantage of the cover of darkness to make his escape as well.
Security guard Vinod Kumar stated that when he blew his whistle to raise the alarm, some residents woke up and stepped out of their homes; however, given that it was the middle of the night, not everyone responded. Sanjeev Dev Sharma—who frequently champions public causes—remarked that thieves and robbers no longer harbor any fear of the police. Consequently, they roam fearlessly outside people’s homes at night, intent on committing crimes. He pointed out that most residents park their vehicles right outside their homes; should the security guard fail to report for duty on any given day, these thieves and robbers could easily vandalize or damage the vehicles. He emphasized that it is absolutely imperative to increase police patrols and set up additional checkpoints (nakabandis) in order to instill a sense of fear in the minds of these criminals.
