Incidents of theft are steadily rising in Sri Muktsar Sahib. Despite police claims of increased night patrols, thieves are carrying out crimes with impunity. The latest incident occurred at a courier office on Bathinda Road, where unidentified thieves breached a nine-inch-thick wall to gain entry, broke open the cash box, and fled with approximately ₹80,000 in cash.
The entire incident was captured on the office’s CCTV cameras. The event has sparked panic among local traders and raised questions regarding police patrolling. According to reports, the thieves made a large hole in the nine-inch-thick rear wall of the office around 1:30 AM on Sunday. They then entered the premises and broke open the cash box, escaping with about ₹80,000 in cash. It is reported that this amount consisted of proceeds from company deliveries and cash collections.
**Theft discovered upon opening the office**
Office employee Sukhjinder Singh stated that when staff arrived around 6:00 AM and unlocked the premises, they found the office in disarray. They discovered the broken cash box and were shocked to see the large hole in the wall. Police were immediately summoned via the emergency helpline number 112. Upon receiving the information, a team from the City Police station arrived at the scene. Officers inspected the site, gathered evidence, and secured the CCTV footage. Officials stated that efforts are underway to identify the thieves based on the footage. Additionally, footage from cameras at nearby establishments and along surrounding routes is being examined to trace the thieves’ movements and escape route. Demand Raised for Increased Police Patrols
Following the incident, shopkeepers and traders in the area are outraged. They state that despite recurring incidents of theft, nighttime security arrangements remain inadequate. They have urged the administration to increase police patrols in markets and sensitive areas to effectively curb such incidents.
Police officials state that the matter is being investigated thoroughly. Efforts are underway to identify the accused based on CCTV footage and other technical evidence. The police have assured that the theft case will soon be solved and the accused arrested.
